By now, everyone knows that some cities were destroyed, and hundreds died in the devastating earthquake; this can’t be reversed in any way. Meanwhile, thousands are currently homeless in terrible weather conditions.
As much as our prayers are significant, we can keep them private and use our reach for simple calls to action that can lead people to where they can contribute and make a massive difference where most of us feel helpless.
I’ll keep sharing links to online donation platforms after doing some due diligence; every penny matters at this point, and never underestimate any amount, please. Those who didn’t die under falling derbies don’t deserve to die of hunger and cold.
If you know of any campaigns, please send them my way

UAE
Emirate Red Crescent
The UAE humanitarian arm and a number of ministries have called for participation in the “Bridges of Good” campaign to assist in gathering and assembling relief supplies for quake-ravaged Türkiye and Syria.
The call, made by the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) Authority in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC) and the Ministry of Community Development, is part of the UAE’s efforts to stand by people plagued by the recent massive quake in the two countries by providing immediate humanitarian supplies.
The campaign will begin with the packaging of the initial aid on February 11th from 9.00 a.m. to 2.00 pm at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) and the Dubai Exhibition Centre at Expo City Dubai.
Starting on February 12, the ERC and the partnering UAE humanitarian and charitable organizations will directly collect donations in cash and in-kind over the course of two weeks.
The campaign, organized by the ERC in collaboration with charitable and humanitarian organizations in the UAE, calls on all facets of the UAE society to support this voluntary effort to gather and mobilize humanitarian relief supplies in solidarity with the affected Syrian and Turkish families.

On a relevant note:
Many of us raise question marks on how much of their donations go to beneficiaries vs. overhead; please take into consideration a couple of points:
- People run organizations, and those people do it for a living; they deserve to be rewarded and not punished for choosing to work in the charity field
- I know some of us hate big institutions like the UN and their agencies. I’m not an exception here, but we can’t deny the leverage and authority they have and the impact they have had on people, especially refugees.
If you want 100% of your donations to reach the beneficiaries directly, the only way you have it is to hand them over directly!
